The use of speech acts by different genders

Men and women do not speak exactly the same. There are certain cases where they use these speech acts differently. Lakoff (1973) was the first linguist to discuss that matter in her articles. Her arguments are dependent mainly on "introspection". She noticed 6 features of the utterance of women that are not found in the speech of men. These features that would be discussed thoroughly in that research are lexical choice, question intonation in statements, hedges, emphatic modifiers, intonational emphasis, hypercorrect grammar, and pronunciation (Wolfson 176). Yet, the researcher views these differences as more pedantry and making things more complicated because they do not exist in the real world. There is no such a thing as a separate language for men and another for women. The researcher's view comes from watching modern movies and finding out that men and women speak exactly the same. The cases in which slight differences occur are so rare and not noticeable. However, this hypothesis will be investigated in present research and is to be approved or disapproved through the use of empirical methods.
